How the AI works

All the AI on Dawnforge runs on members’ own computers, in an open circle of PCs that members share with each other. No AI company is involved, and nothing you make here is used to train anyone’s AI. This page shows how the tools fit together, what the AI can and can’t do, and where your things go.

Where everything lives

Three places, joined by encrypted connections. The open web only comes in when you allow a web search.

Your device

Your browser shows the tools. It also keeps a copy of your chats and your settings, such as the No internet switch.

The site’s server

A rented server that runs the tools and keeps your account, chats, files, worlds, stories, boards and pictures. Everything here needs a sign-in.

Members’ PCs

The AI itself: one part that writes and one that paints, on PCs members connect with the Mindhearth app. Your own PC answers you first; otherwise a member’s PC that shares takes the job without learning who asked. Each PC collects its work from the server and deletes each picture as soon as the server has it. None is open to the internet.

The open web

Only when you allow a web search: the search words go to public search engines, and the AI may open a few pages. This goes out from the server, not from your device.

How the tools work together

  • Whisperglass and its painter

Whisperglass writes and paints. When you want a picture it hands the job to Moonbrush, its painter, by itself. The Paint switch or @Moonbrush asks Moonbrush directly.

  • Hollowkeep → Whisperglass

Attach files from your storage to a message. The AI reads only the files you attach, and only in that chat.

  • Worldquill ↔ Whisperglass

Pick a world for a chat and the AI knows its people and places. Any world page can be painted, and finished pictures can go on a world page.

  • Fableknot · Worldquill

Stories are stored with their world and share its people, sharing and history. Storyboard frames are painted by Moonbrush, the AI can check spelling, and finished stories can be exported to Hollowkeep.

  • Sketchmere · Worldquill

Boards are stored with their world too, and you draw on them together live. Pages of the world can be placed on a board as cards. No AI is involved.

  • Group chats

In a chat with other people the AI stays quiet until someone asks it, with @Whisperglass, @Moonbrush or the Ask switch.

  • Mirrorgate

Admins can switch Sebastian’s PC on and off. Every member’s PC can be off or paused too; when none that could answer is on, the tools say so and the AI simply waits.

What the AI can do

  • Chat, answer questions and help you write and brainstorm, in your language.
  • Read the files and photos you attach and the world you pick.
  • Paint pictures from a description, or change a photo you give it.
  • Search the web and read pages, but only after asking you first.
  • Check spelling in your stories.

What it can’t do

  • See your other chats, files or worlds. It only sees what you attach or pick.
  • Remember you. Every chat starts fresh.
  • Go online without your OK, or at all while No internet is on.
  • Learn from you. Nothing you send here trains it.
  • Act on its own: it can’t send messages, change your files or buy anything.
  • Chat properly or paint while no PC is on. A small AI on your own device can then only answer short questions and check spelling.
  • Always be right. It is smaller than the big online AIs and makes mistakes, so check facts, numbers and anything important.

Why your things stay here

No AI company in the loop

Every AI request goes from the server to a PC in the members’ circle, your own first, and nowhere else. Under AI computer in your account you can keep it to your own PC. The site’s code doesn’t talk to any outside AI service.

Nothing trains on your work

The AI here only reads what you send while it answers. It never learns from it, and since nothing reaches an AI company, nobody else can train on it either.

Closed to crawlers

Every tool needs an approved account. Search engines and AI crawlers only ever see the front page and the sign-in page. Hollowkeep has no public links: you share with people who have an account.

A private line to every PC

Each PC collects its work from the server over an encrypted connection, so the AI can’t be reached from the internet. For a short while the server can still also reach Sebastian’s PC through a private encrypted network (Tailscale); that line is being switched off.

No trackers

No analytics, ads or tracking, and the fonts are hosted here. Strict browser rules let the tool pages talk only to seppo.app.

Counts, not contents

The usage log counts messages and pictures per person. It never stores what anyone wrote, and the server keeps no visit logs.

Honest limits

This is a small home setup run by one person, not a bank. Here is what it doesn’t promise.

  • Web search: when you allow one, the AI’s search words go to public search engines and the pages it opens see a visit from the server. Turn on No internet in Whisperglass to rule that out on this device.
  • Two places, both Sebastian’s: every night the server’s data (chats, files, worlds, stories and boards) is copied to Sebastian’s PC as a backup. These copies are not separately encrypted.
  • Sebastian runs the server and could technically open what is stored on it. A member whose PC answers a chat or paints a picture for you sees that job while it runs, without your name; the app never writes it down, but someone who goes out of their way could read it. Choose Only my PC to keep your chats off other members’ PCs; a photo you edit only goes to another member’s PC if you say yes each time, without its location and camera data. Everyone in a group chat can read that chat.
  • Pictures live on the server under names nobody can guess; the PC that painted one deletes its copy once the server has the picture. A picture you put on a world page or use as a storyboard frame is copied to that world. Anyone who can see a picture in a chat could pass its link on to someone else with an account.
  • The front page loads its social icons from a public icon library (jsDelivr), which sees that visit.
  • The AI software on members’ PCs is open-source and runs locally, but this page can only vouch for the site’s own code and the Mindhearth app.
